TL;DR We are testing Github Discussions as a new forum. Start asking and answering questions about Ramses here! Watch the repo to receive emails (see instructions below).
One of the missions of the SNO is to improve the quality of the support given to Ramses users and developers. To achieve this purpose, it is crucial to have efficient online tools that allow members of the community to ask questions and get answers from more experienced members.
Such a tool should have some essential features:
- Easy to use with a well organized interface that includes categories, topics, etc.
- Message archiving so that old discussions are always accessible.
- Efficient search options.
Furthermore, there are other features that it would be nice to have:
- Nice formatting options (code, Latex)
- Github integration
- Email integration
The online channels we currently use (Slack and Google group) don’t fulfill these criteria. At the 2024 Ramses SNO meeting, we decided to test a solution that fulfills all these needs: Github Discussions. The interface works very much like a forum, with the possibility to mark threads as answered. It works with a Github account and it is very well integrated with issues and pull-request. Test it with button below.
Please give us your feedback about this new tool here, or on Slack.
IMPORTANT : in order to receive emails when messages are posted on GitHub Discussions, it is necessary to “watch” the repository. We recommand you do as follows on the GitHub page.
1/ On the ramses GitHub webpage, click the downward arrow in the “watch” button.
2/ Select the Custom option.
3/ Select “Discussions” and click on “Apply”.
